According to the Wall Street Journal

The U.S. economy added 115,000 jobs in April as hiring slacked off for the second straight month, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. The unemployment rate, meanwhile, dipped to 8.1% from 8.2%, as nearly 350,000 people dropped out of the labor force. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires expected a gain of 168,000 in payrolls and for the jobless rate to remain at 8.2% in April.

On a positive note, March payrolls grew by an upwardly revised 154,000 from an initially reported 120,000, and February payrolls posted a gain of 259,000, compared with an earlier estimate of 240,000. The report showed that private companies again fueled the growth, adding 130,000 jobs in April. Job growth came from a variety of sectors. Professional and business services, which include temporary help, engineering, and software design, added 62,000 jobs

I recently received a nice e-mail from one of our customers that I thought deserved sharing. “Just a bit about Action Associates! I actually tell everyone about them. I have found them to be quite helpful at finding people jobs. Action does everything in their powers (which I have found to be MAGICAL) to find associates that meet our needs. Everyone that I speak with at Action seems like an old friend. If I need something they are right there to help the best they can. What a great sense of humor they all have too. They are just plain ole FUN. I look forward to our phone conversations, no matter who I speak with and I do get a bit sad if I get a voicemail. That just means that they are busy, busy, busy little beavers interviewing, calling and setting up interviews so they can get us the best workers they can. I have had a great relationship with them all and look forward to our continued friendship.”

Facebook participation grows by leaps and bounds daily, allowing “friends” to keep in touch. You can share personal updates, funny YouTube videos, and your opinions on any subject you choose. With social media’s growing popularity, employers are also utilizing sites such as Facebook to post positions, search for candidates, but more importantly, learn about current and potential employees. Remember this the next time you want to rant about your job, your boss, your co-workers, the lousy cafeteria food, etc., etc., etc.

While there is current debate in Congress and questions being posed regarding the legality of employers asking to see your personal profiles during the hiring process, employers sometimes use social media sites to determine if their potential candidates like to “trash talk” their current employers. If you have any negative postings regarding your current employer, there is a very good chance that your employer will find out about it–usually through your “friends.” Remember the old adage, “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all?” This may be the best advise regarding any postings about your job. You can try to rely on security settings to limit who sees your information, but be sure to keep up with the frequently changing settings on Facebook.

Everyone has bad days. Before you decide to share yours with the world, please think twice. A short outburst on Facebook could result in a long string of bad days.

Don’t forget that Action Associates offers “thank yous” in the form of cash when you refer good employees! We are currently seeking CNC operators, entry level machine operators, press operators and others. Refer a friend or relative to Action Associates and receive $50 cash when they have been employed by us for as little as two weeks! Even if you have never worked for us, you are eligible for the “Send A Friend” referral bonus! There is no limit to the number of referrals you can collect on, provided they each give us your name at the time of interview and they work 80 hours (not including overtime) in a job we place them in. Then all you have to do, is call us to remind us that you referred that person and we will send you your $50! If you are working for us at the time, we can add it to your next paycheck, if you choose. See all of the open positions on our site to identify which of your friends or relatives might be able to secure employment and earn you some cash in the process!

Yes, another blog about goals, but I would like to offer a rebuttal to the previous posting. Let’s approach goals from a more positive outlook, with specific steps you can take to clarify your goals and take action to achieve them. The following link from Simple Truths lists the ten step “combination” to make 2012 a great year!

Goals, The 10 Rules for Achieving Success

One goal that should be reaffirmed every year is to become a lifelong learner. So, under Step 7 to “Take Purposeful Action,” there are several great resources you can explore to take goal setting and personal development to the next level. Some reading suggestions include The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey (or anything by the author), The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy, Goals!: How to Get Everything You Want–Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible by Brian Tracy, and SUCCESS Magazine, a monthly publication.

2012 will be a remarkable year–for those who plan to be remarkable!
